Nokia (NOK) shares jump amid Reddit rally

Nokia (NOK) stock surged over 5% following the Reddit rally, this has been among the favorites of Reddit’s Wall Street Bets.

However, the company’s popularity with retail investors has sent the stock on a roller coaster ride so far this year. The stock surged 55% in a span of three days at the end of January reaching it an all time high of around $7. The Finnish NOK stock has since retreated but remains 10% up year to date while ADRs are 3.3% as of Wednesday’s close.

Nokia is making tremendous progress

Nokia debuted a modded approach for network operators to use and manage core 5G software from multiple vendors that embraces the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) concept. Nokia refers to this as DelOps, a new initiative for managing complex core 5G software. This will allow faster deployments and operators to efficiently integrate other services.

Nokia is also introducing a new framework that avoids waterfall updates and releases with a benefit to evolve the operator environment.

This new service will tackle software complexities allowing for delivery and testing that can be validated in a multi-domain environment as they come on board. Nokia describes CI/CD as a evolution from a one-solution-for-all to multiple solutions for different operators in public, private and hybrid clouds.

Nokia’s DelOps service is commercially available according to a vendor.

Nokia to become more profitable by 2022

According to an analysis last year, Nokia warned investors that it would not complete its transition to profitable 5G products until 2022 but expects its mobile market share to remain stable outside of China.

In honor of complete transparency, Nokia said it would provide regular updates on progress as well as details of its win rate in 5G. According to CEO Rajeev Suri, they have more than 100% outside of China, he said to reporters. This means that Nokia has secured 5G business with nearly all its 4G customers and some other operators it did not previously serve.

Nokia claims about 27% of all 4G and 5G radio access networks outside of China in 2019 and at the end of last year it expected to finish with the same share of business.
